The Cole Weed-Eater Festival Prepares the Outdoor Education Center for Students

They came with buckets, rakes, shovels, clippers, tractors, blowers, and of course weed-eaters. The community descended on the Cole Outdoor Education Center yesterday to help clean it up for student use. A very wet summer left mud caked on the shelter floor and corn stalks pushing against the south fence. Weeds do what weeds do over a hot, wet summer - they flourished - keeping sight lines impaired and access to the pond and the wetland along the trail not friendly for children. Parents and students weed-eated, scraped, hauled, and cleaned. Now the Outdoor Education Center looks wonderful and ready. The old adage, "Many hands make light work" holds true. Community at its finest was exhibited during the Weed-eater Festival. The winners for all of this hard work - the Cole Children. Cole Elementary finds value in trips to the Outdoor Education Center. Visits are part of the school improvement plan. Without the help of many willing and able hands working together and the continuous support of Keep Stockwell Beautiful, this spot would not be what it is today, nor would the educational experience for the chldren. at Cole.
