By Studying Apples, Kindergarten Learn Many Skills

Who would have thought that an apple could hold so many possibilities for learning? The Cole Kindergarten students have been studying apples all week. During the apple unit, students have taste tested red, yellow, and green apples and graphed their favorite variety. Students have labeled the parts of the apple. They have also used apples to make art. Fine motor skills have also been in high demand by the kindergarten students as they cut apples for apple sauce. The fun week of learning will culminate with Johnny Appleseed Day where stories will be shared and applesauce will be sampled. Authentic learning occurs when hands get dirty and activities extend beyond a worksheet.
