The morning of 5th grade celebration is a special time at Cole Elementary. The students start their day in the gym with their families to celebrate the end of 5th grade and all that they accomplished throughout their years at Cole. There is a slow start to the celebration with breakfast for everyone, and after all have enjoyed their food, the program begins with awards. There are several classroom awards that come from their teachers, and their are several bigger awards that are given from Mr. Pinto that gets the student's name on a plaque that is displayed in the building. After all the special awards is a memorable time of each student getting memories from teachers shared about them. The teachers and staff write down memories that they have of the students from their time with them, then Mr. Pinto reads these memories while the student stands and has their moment of recognition. These memories are the highlight of the celebration as the students are reminded how special they are and how much they are cared for by their teachers. Another special thing about this celebration is that they get to take home a paint can that has something special from all the grade levels they have completed at Cole, such as a string of how tall the were in kindergarten and a recording of them reading a story in first grade. The students get to see how much they have grown and have a glimpse of what they accomplished with these memories. As is typical of a graduation, the celebration was concluded with the moving of the tassel and tossing their caps into the air. This celebration is truly a special way to conclude the 5th graders final days at Cole Elementary.
