The fourth and fifth grade students of Cole Elementary spent an afternoon at the Outdoor Education Center, taking part in a pond day to learn about nature and features of the Outdoor Education Center. There were different stations that students were able to be a part of, all with a different topic. One of the stations was fishing in the pond. There was also a station about invasive species, the food chain, with getting to investigate different insects, as well as a DNR officer who spoke to all the students about his job. The Outdoor Education Center is a wonderful addition to Cole Elementary, and it provides many unique learning opportunities for the students. With this pond day, the students were able to learn about things in a hands on way that would not be possible in a traditional classroom. Fishing in the pond is a favorite of students, but this pond day went beyond fishing and taught the students more about the environment and ecosystem that surrounds the pond.
