New cafeteria opens at Wainwright

Sixth grader Sydney Gibbs was the first to go through the lunch line in the new cafeteria at Wainwright Middle School. “I love how it looks,” she says, admiring the new serving line and seating area. “It looks amazing. And, mandarin orange chicken is one of my favorites.”

Students were excited to get their first look at the new cafeteria marking the completion of the year-long building expansion and renovation project.

“To see the excitement and joy from our students when they entered the new cafeteria for lunch made the time away from the cafeteria worth the wait,” says Principal Mike Lowrey. “I appreciate our students, staff, and families being so patient and supportive during the cafeteria construction process.  In the end we have an outstanding finished product that will serve the Wainwright community for a very long time.”

Behind the scenes, Director of Nutrition Services Lori Shofroth Cords says the kitchen is equipped with the latest equipment including a walk-in cooler and freezer: “The kitchen comes with the top-of-the-line equipment to ensure we can serve delicious food in a timely manner.”

“There’s more space to spread out,” says seventh grader Archer Tilley. “It’s modern and brighter. I love all the windows.”

Sydney adds,” It’s so nice it makes you want to come here all the time for lunch and to hangout.”
