Some McCutcheon High School teachers will be able to go on a shopping spree for their classrooms, thanks to a donation from Zeigler Subaru of Lafayette. The donation is part of Subaru’s Love Promise program. The dealership announced it selected McCutcheon for its Adopt-A-School program that allows 25 teachers to spend $500 on supplies, games, decorations or anything else that is needed for their classrooms.

“This generous donation allows our teachers to access resources for their classrooms that otherwise would not be available,” says Principal Gloria Grigsby.  “Having the community support of Zeigler Subaru is incredibly meaningful because they are invested in the Maverick staff and students.”

“Zeigler Subaru of Lafayette believes that all students deserve an equal and fair opportunity at a quality education. That’s why we are partnering with AdoptAClassroom.org to make a difference in the lives of students,” says Andrew Lane, program manager of the Subaru Love Promise Program. “Instead of using their own money, teachers will be able to use these funds to get the supplies and resources they need to help all students thrive in the classroom.”

The school chose 25 teachers from across all academic disciplines to receive the donation.

“We are so very thankful for their generosity,” says social studies teacher Dennise Grater. “I will use the funds to purchase colored pencils, highlighters, glue sticks, post-it notes and other little things that get used up throughout the school year that many high schoolers don’t keep in their backpacks. I will also get a few squishy balls, cushions, puzzles and other items for our calming corner.”

"We are interested in purchasing equipment that would better serve our marketing classes as they help promote everything from extra-curricular activities to everyday events here at McCutcheon,” says business teacher Tyler Scherer. “We are interested in purchasing a colored printer, laminator, signage materials, and possibly even a drone to capture outdoor footage of our students in action. This donation will impact how students apply what we have learned in the world of marketing."

Lane says “Through this partnership with AdoptAClassroom.org, Subaru and its retailers, including Zeigler Subaru of Lafayette, will have supported more than 470,000 students nationwide and are proud to be the largest corporate supporter of AdoptAClassroom.org.”
