First grade had a blast reading Mo Willem's book, Happy Pig Day, as part of our reading instruction. On Friday we celebrated with a Happy Pig Day Party. As the book tells us, it is the best day to say Happy Pig Day in Pig ("Oinky Oink Oink!"), the best day to eat pig food (Pigs in a Blanket, of course), and the best day to sing pig songs, dance pig dances, and play pig games. Those songs, dances, and games were created by cooperative groups of 3-4 first graders and their creativity was amazing! We danced the "Flying Piggie," learned the rules for "Elephant, Elephant, Pig," and sang "Twinkle Twinkle Little Pig!" First graders say "Oinky Oink Oink!" to everyone!
